Class Location: Computer classes and tutorials will be taught by the instructor live online or at the Continuing Education Center, located in the Town Hall Annex or at one of the schools. Some classes may be taught live, online via Zoom.


Beginners


Word and Excel Basics - Level 1
Prerequisite: Basic computer skills and knowledge of the keyboard. For people who need to fill basic computer skills gaps’ and learn how to get started using Word and Excel. Learn to create and edit simple letters and spreadsheets using Word and Excel. Includes copy, cut, paste, open, save vs saveas, print, margins and beginning formulas. We will also cover basic file management, find files, create folders and desktop shortcuts. Instructor Peggy Bruno, a certified teacher, has developed computer courses and trained several thousand adults in computer applications for over 25 years. She previously worked in corporate marketing and information services. She has also taught Microsoft Office at the community college level. She holds a BA and MA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Windows Basics and Your Laptop or PC

Prerequisite: Basic computer skills. Have your laptop or desktop PC handy and ease your transition to Windows 10 or 11. Learn how to customize your Start menu and desktop, how to use the Windows Edge browser, how to personalize Windows though its array of settings, how to speak to Windows using the Cortana voice assistant, and how to shop for apps at the Windows Store. Instructor Lance Whitney is a technology journalist and the author of the book Teach Yourself Visually LinkedIn. He's also written a book on Windows 8. He currently writes for TechRepublic, ZDNet, PCMag, and other technology sites. Previously, he was a system administrator with Ciba Specialty Chemicals. He's taught a variety of continuing education courses at Ridgefield Continuing Education for several years.

Google Docs

Prerequisite: Basic Internet and Windows skills. Google docs provides a free, cloud-based platform for creating and sharing word processing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations compatible with Microsoft Office. We'll cover the basics of editing your files and sharing them with other people. Have your Google account and password handy so you can sign into Google Docs for the class.
