Gentle Yoga with Beverly Leighton
This gentle yoga class includes warming stretches, yoga postures (seated/standing) and breathing techniques. The class may include slow and easy somatic movements as well as longer holding of postures. Please have a yoga block or a stack of books, perhaps a strap, scarf or belt to use for support. This class is suitable for all levels. Instructor Beverly Leighton has been practicing yoga for over fifteen years and actively teaching group and private lessons since 2010. She received her RYT200 certification under Val Schneiderman at The Yoga Shala in Ridgefield, CT. She is a big believer that ANYONE can practice yoga and, although her teachings were once concentrated on the rigorous Ashtanga style, Beverly has expanded her energies more towards gentle movements and restorative type asanas. In her classes, Beverly emphasizes connection to the awareness of breath with acceptance. The postures that are selected are given to create strength, balance and fluidity. She is dedicated to sharing the benefits of yoga to all ages and abilities recently focusing on the senior population. She likes to incorporate gentle somatic movements that have the ability to improve health, well-being, quality of life and personal performance. These mindful, incremental movements raise awareness to heal persistent tension-based patterns in our bodies. She often includes these movements into a seated (chair) yoga practice, which helps specialty groups with limited mobility
