eBay

Buying and Selling On eBay
Prerequisite: Basic computer and Internet skills. This class can help you: buy old or new items with confidence; convert household clutter to cash; start an on-line eBay business; sell items to downsize a collection. In this two-part class Eileen Burton will unravel the mysteries of eBay by sharing her knowledge and expertise acquired from years of buying and selling on this popular site. The first two-hour class will be devoted to all the basics and the second class will cover in detail all the steps to sell an item – from photographing it to listing it on eBay – by actually putting something up for sale. Instructor Eileen Burton has taught numerous classes about eBay using experience gained from selling items there from her collectibles business. She also shares her results of extensive research by teaching courses in iPhone, iPad, genealogy, and related subjects over a period of many years with Continuing Education.

Careers/Job Search ~ One on One Sessions


Career Assessments ~ One on One
In the session, assessments will be provided based upon: Myers-Briggs Type, Holland Type, Values, Skills Card Sorts, Fields of Interests, and questions from NYU Career Coaching classes. The results help to clarify and prioritize what most interests you, and might suit your type, interests, talents, strengths and skills. Career assessments will not tell you which is the one perfect career for you, but point to a mix of career opportunities to explore. Bibliography of top career and business books and online resources also supplied. One-on-one sessions are available most Friday afternoons or other days/times. She currently works privately with individuals on career assessments. She also attended the four day LifeLaunch program at The Hudson Institute in Santa Barbara, California.

Learn what these sites offer, how to set up your accounts and profiles, how to promote yourself, and how to join groups and contribute to virtual communities. Instructor Lance Whitney is a freelance writer for Time, AARP Magazine, PC Magazine, and other websites and publications. He’s written books on Windows 8 and LinkedIn. Previous, he was a system administrator and trainer with Ciba Specialty Chemicals. He’s taught a variety of continuing education courses at Ridgefield Continuing Education for several years.

Real Estate

Real Estate Principles & Practices
This course meets the minimum requirements as set forth by the Connecticut Real Estate Commission and Department of Consumer Protection for application to take the sales associate exam. Students must attend 60 hours of class (20 sessions) per the State of Connecticut regulations. We are offering 66 hours. Led by Terry Hastings with guest instructors who are experienced, licensed brokers and sales associates. Terry Hastings has taught Real Estate Principles and Practices in Ridgefield for over ten years. He is now with Total Mortgage Services, LLC. In 2014 he received the Five Star Mortgage Professional Award from Connecticut Magazine. He was previously with Hamilton Ladd Home Loans and has over 20 years prior experience in Real Estate sales and management with Weichert, Realtors and Prudential, Fitzgerald & Hastings. Nick Davis is an experienced REALTOR®, now Brokerage Sales Manager of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty, previously with Weichert, Realtors. Lonnie Shapiro, GRI, CRS, Ridgefield REALTOR® for over 30 years, now with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Ridgefield, is co-author of the Connecticut issue of How to Make Your REALTOR® Get You the Best Deal.

Real Estate Brokers License

In order to qualify for a Connecticut Broker license, the Connecticut Real Estate Commission requirements are as listed at http://www.ct.gov/dcp/site/default.asp Then click on Licenses for details. Both applicant for the Sales Associate Exam and the Broker Exam must complete the 60 hour class listed above.

Elder Law Strategies: Protect Yourself with Trusts
Avoid depleting your funds on long term care, and preserve your independence and quality of life. Attorneys Murphy will explain using Asset Protection Trusts to protect your resources and qualify for VA Aid & Attendance pension (up to $2,229/month) and Medicaid benefits (for home care or nursing home). Also learn how to use Revocable Living Trusts to avoid probate, minimize estate taxes, preserve IRA funds, provide for disabled family members, avoid conservatorship, and protect your estate from your children’s creditors. Plan and protect! Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to: Revocable Living Trusts, Irrevocable Trusts, pros and cons of transferring assets, Medicaid and VA Aid & Attendance payment of long term care, and new laws regarding Powers of Attorney and Access To Digital Assets. Instructors Attorney Thomas E. Elder Law Strategies: How To Keep Medicaid From “TAKING IT ALL”
Whether you are planning for your future long term care or confronting a loved one’s current long term care, you can structure your legal documents, assets and income to use Medicaid’s technical rules for you instead of against you. Some rules create opportunities that can be carried out over time, and others that can be implemented within a month. By knowing those rules, you can protect your assets and income from future Medicaid (Title XIX) exposure and even stop current Medicaid asset depletion. Learn how to develop the optimal plan whether you face long term care down the road or right now. Topics to be covered include: asset and income limits, spousal protections, converting exposed assets to exempt assets, avoiding transfer-of-asset penalties, use of trusts and annuities, targeted spend-down, qualifying despite being over-asset or over-income, and avoiding liens and recoveries. Bookkeeping

Basic Bookkeeping/Accounting
This class is ideal before you take an accounting course. No accounting knowledge is required. You will learn about double entry bookkeeping/accounting. Learn the basics: accounts receivable, payables, journal entries, expenses, revenues and chart of accounts. Master double entry accounting and learn how quickly you can retrieve financial information from accounts like cash balance, sales for the month, and paid bills. Learn key accounting terms to help you tackle accounting software programs (QuickBooks) to manage a business with ease. Instructor Laura Jonassen has a BBA and 12 years experience in accounting in both the public and corporate sector. Continued my career in non-profit and spent 6 years as the controller for Marymount College. She is currently teaching part time through the Putnam County School District. A materials fee of $7 to 9 is payable to the instructor at the first class. Make up date, if necessary, is 5/29.
